Course: Throwing for Improvers

Lidded Pots

On this next steps throwing course, get to grips with the processes involved in making successful lidded pots.

Suitable for: Confident beginners who have completed one of our Beginner’s Throwing Courses or similar.

In this six session throwing course, tutor Rosie will demonstrate throwing vessels with lids. There will be plenty of hands-on practice in throwing on the wheel, focusing on improving height and evenness, whilst learning techniques for making lidded pots with well-fitting lids.

Techniques covered across the three-hour sessions include:

  • experimenting with forms
  • various methods used to make different lid shapes
  • how to make a gallery
  • throwing off the hump
  • how to glaze a lidded pot
  • add resist effects using wax and tape when glazing

This course is ideal for anyone who has learnt the basics of centering and throwing a cylinder and who wishes to broaden their skills and improve. Particularly suitable as a follow-up for anyone who has attended one of our Beginner’s Throwing courses.

Further details

The course is open to adults (18+). Cost includes instruction, refreshments and five pots* to keep. These will be fired after the course and ready to pick up a few weeks later. We recycle any extra pots at greenware stage.

As this is a structured course that builds on the previous week, absences cannot be made up. Therefore please ensure you can attend every session.

 

*Additional pots: If you would like to keep any more than five pots, these will be weighed and charged for per 100g to cover material and firing costs.
