Autumn term 2021: Nerikomi classes will start on Monday 15th November for 5 teaching weeks in total, ending 13th December 2021. The cost is £175.
We will working towards making some beautiful Christmas gifts!
You can choose between Monday morning and Monday afternoon. Nerikomi is a Japanese process of layering different coloured clays and then slicing through to create a pattern.
This class is perfect for those with some previous experience of working with clay, athough it is open to beginners too. Nerikomi ceramics are distinct patterned pieces created through the combination of coloured clays. We will be making our own colored clay by mixing stains directly into porcelain clay. Over the duration of the classes, students will learn how to use stains to create their own coloured clays, and use traditional nerikomi pattern designs to produce functional ceramic tableware.
This is a five week handbuilding class focusing on using colored clay and slabs to make forms. The way the clays are stacked and joined will result in various patterns.
The cost of these classes includes teaching, tools, equipment, studio space, refreshments and the items that you make to take away.
