Pods to Pumpkins

This Autumnal forms workshop is tailored for a range of abilities from beginners to more experienced potters.

Take inspiration from nature’s bountiful forms to create a sculptural seedpod, pear or pumpkin.

YOUR TUTOR

This workshop is led by Helen Ashton a founding tutor at The Clay Studio. Her own ceramic work is inspired by natural forms which she often fires with the Raku method.

Join us for this fun and creative workshop where you’ll learn how to craft a unique, nature-inspired sculptural piece, drawing inspiration from the beauty and intricate design of seed pods, fruit, and pumpkins. Nature’s delicate balance of form, fragility, and structure offers the perfect foundation for sculpting in clay.

Your tutor, Helen, will guide you step-by-step through the process, offering tailored support to suit all levels, from beginners to more experienced potters. You’ll have the opportunity to shape and transform clay into 3D structures, incorporating textures, layers and features such as seeds, stalks, and skins—whether you choose to create a pear, pomegranate, pumpkin, or any other design that sparks your imagination.

To add a personal touch, you’ll also learn how to enhance your creation with decorative slip, or perhaps even turn your piece into a charming tealight holder.

While we will provide a variety of reference materials, we encourage you to bring your own fruit, poppy seedhead, or a prized pumpkin or squash from your garden to inspire your work.
