Porcelain Throwing
In this five week course you will experientially gain an understanding of how to throw porcelain on the wheel.
Porcelain in one of the finest clays in ceramics and is a beautiful clay to throw and turn. It behaves very differently to other clays and it can be temperamental to work with. But because of its unique properties such as its fine finish, whiteness and potential for translucency it is very much sought by studio potters.

From discussing porcelain’s properties, the importance of preparation, throwing, turning to reclaiming, you will be guided by demonstrations and practical sessions to gain confidence when using this beautiful material. The course is aimed at those with some experience on the wheel, and not the complete beginner or the advanced thrower. It is aimed at developing skills and for practise.
It is open to adults (18+). The cost includes instruction, refreshments and three items to keep from the course, which will be glazed and fired for you. We will recycle any other pots you have made. If you would like to keep more than three, additional pieces will be and charged for per 100g to cover the materials and firing costs.
After your pots have been glazed and fired they will be ready to pick-up from the studio a few weeks later.
This course is led by guest ceramicist Elaine Sheppard Bolt.
The course will run for five afternoons from Friday 7th June, with an optional sixth session for decorating and finishing work.
