Throwing for Improvers

Please join us for a 5-week throwing course for those who wish to improve their skills on the wheel.

In this five-week course, venture beyond the basics and deepen your throwing skills.

Suitable for: This course is ideal for anyone who has learnt the basics of centering and throwing a cylinder and who wishes to broaden their skills and improve. Particularly suitable as a follow-up for anyone who has attended one of our Beginner’s Throwing courses.

This course is led by Rosie, and runs on consecutive Fridays for 3 hours each session.

COURSE OUTLINE

This throwing course aims to help you gain confidence in your throwing technique, looking at cylinders and bowl shapes in particular. The focus is on practicing consistency and refinement, rather than making lots of pots to keep. You’ll be encouraged to cut in half some of your pots to examine bases and wall thickness, etc. An essential practice when learning.

Rosie will guide you via demonstrations and be on hand to assist you at the wheel if you get stuck on a particular aspect of throwing which you would like to improve on. There will also be a session on trimming the pots that you would like to put forward for firing.

As it’s a structured course that builds on the previous week, absences for a session cannot be made up. Therefore do please plan to attend all five sessions.

FURTHER DETAILS

The course is for adults (18+). The cost includes instruction, five items* to keep and refreshments. We will recycle any other non-fired pots you have made.

Please note: If you have an implanted medical device please read HERE

*For current students at The Clay Studio: If you wish to keep more than five pots, you can turn and glaze these extra pots in your weekly class. Please weigh and pay for them as usual.
