Porcelain Throwing
In this five week course you will experientially gain an understanding of how to throw porcelain on the wheel.
Porcelain in one of the finest clays in ceramics and it behaves very differently to other clays. It is temperamental and not the easiest clay to manipulate, but because of its properties such as its whiteness and translucency it is very much sought by studio potters.
From discussing porcelain’s properties, the importance of preparation, throwing, turning to reclaiming, you will be guided by demonstrations and practical sessions to gain confidence when using this beautiful material.
This course is aimed at those with some experience on the wheel, and not the complete beginner or the advanced thrower. It is aimed at developing skills and for practise. It is not intended for those who want to make prolifically.
It is open to adults (18+). The cost includes instruction, refreshments and three items to keep. This is included in the price. We will recycle any other pots you have made, or you can pay for any others beyond the three included which will be weighed and charged for per 100g to cover the materials and firing costs.
The pots you keep will be glazed for you and you can pick them up a few weeks later.
This course is led by Susana Garcia.
