Exploring Surface Design & Decoration
Enjoy a creative full-day workshop exploring surface design and decoration techniques.
In the morning, applying colour and pattern to items you’ve made, then working in the afternoon with bright and bold colour glaze transfers on fired ceramics.
Lara and Lisa will demonstrate a wide variety of decorating techniques and then be on hand to guide you as you work on your own pieces in this hands-on workshop.
DESIGN ON GREENWARE
In the morning session you will make your own ceramic tile and plate using prepared clay, then using paper-resist and other techniques, create your design and colour with slips.
DESIGN ON FIRED WARE
In the afternoon you will learn how to work with glaze transfers and apply them to a ready fired and glazed white mug and 10cm square tile.
The transfers are sheets of gummed paper impregnated with a ceramic glaze, they come in a wide variety of colours. The flat colour transfer sheets can be used to cut out simple, bold shapes to build up the design. Additionally, pre-printed transfers featuring shells, birds, butterflies and much more, can be added to enhance the design further and really bring it to life.
Once you’ve worked out your design and the transfers are cut and ready to apply, you’ll be shown how to attach them to the surface.
Your plate, tile, decorated mug and tile can be picked up 2-3 weeks after the workshop once they have been fired.
