Nerikomi: Flower Patterns
Nerikomi is a Japanese process of layering different coloured clays and then slicing through to create a pattern.
This workshop is perfect for those with some previous experience of Nerikomi, for example, our Nerikomi workshop for beginners.
For this workshop you will learn how to make a Nerikomi flower pattern by combining coloured clay shapes, slicing through, then arranging the slices to form a pattern.
Your Tutor: Susana Garcia
During this 4 hour workshop you will focus on Nerikomi making. There will be a selection of Nerikomi coloured porcelain provided, alongside stains to mix up your own should you wish to.
We will be making our own coloured clay by mixing stains directly into porcelain clay. Students will learn how to use stains to create their own coloured clays, and use traditional nerikomi pattern designs.
You will make an oval dish and a tile can make up to five items such as small dishes or plates, or ten if you are making smaller pieces such as jewellery items. Finished pieces will be fired, sanded, glazed, then fired again. Ready for pickup in approximately 4 weeks.
