Willow Basketry Two Day Workshop

Learn how to make an oval Willow Basket in this two day workshop with Matilda Grover.

You will learn how to make a beautiful oval basket, woven using the Catalan base method and finished with a twisted willow handle.

YOUR TUTOR

Matilda Grover is a Sussex-based designer, maker and basket weaver. Her specialism in basketry draws on her professional experience, having worked in a variety of design, research and craft-led practices.

Matilda’s desire to live and work in a sustainable way has led her to increasingly utilise locally found natural materials, such as Rush and Willow.

DAY ONE

On the Saturday morning we will cover material preparation and selection. You will then start to weave the base of your basket around a pre-made Willow hoop. Each base weaver is then bent upwards forming the sides and you will then start to weave the main body of your basket.

DAY TWO

On the Sunday you will continue to weave your basket to the desired height. Once achieved, it’s then time to create the border and make a twisted Willow handle to complete your oval shopper basket.
