Throwing Large

In this five week course you will gain an understanding of how to throw large on the wheel.

Having learnt to throw, many potters lack the skills and confidence to throw large items. This course gives you the chance to improve your technique, and have a lot of fun with Cellan along the way!

Suitable for: Confident beginners who have completed one of our Beginner’s Throwing Courses or similar.

Led by Cellan Cox, this course runs on consecutive Fridays for 3 hours each session.

From discussing the techniques of throwing large, the importance of preparation, throwing and turning to reclaiming, you will gain confidence on the wheel through demonstrations and practical sessions.

This course is  open to adults (18 years and over) and is aimed at those with some experience on the wheel rather than the complete beginner or advanced thrower.  It is not intended for those who want to make prolifically, but for those looking to develop their skills.

The cost includes instruction, refreshments and drinks. Please note that in addition to the course fee, any items you make and want to keep will be weighed and charged for per 100g to cover the materials and firing costs.

The pots you keep will be glazed for you and you can pick them up a few weeks later.

“The Throwing Large course was just what I needed to extend my throwing skills. Excellent demos and support to create your own large pots. The studio is such a wonderful and calming place where you’re made to feel welcome and encouraged to learn.”
