YOUR TUTOR
Matilda Grover is a Sussex-based designer, maker and basket weaver. Her specialism in basketry draws on her professional experience, having worked in a variety of design, research and craft-led practices.
Matilda’s desire to live and work in a sustainable way has led her to increasingly utilise locally found natural materials, such as Rush and Willow.
Matilda will demonstrate a variety of techniques during the workshop and will be teaching participants how to make a small woven Rush bowl or table platter.
Whether you are completely new to basketry, or have perhaps tried it before, this workshop is suitable for you. There will be time for some hands-on experimenting and learning about Rush Basketry and this wonderful natural material which grows in British rivers and waterways.
Matilda has taught various design and making workshops in the UK and South Africa. These workshops have given her a greater understanding of how design and making can have a positive impact on people and their communities. She believes the processes of making and weaving are innate within us. To forge a career within craft and to pass on the skills she has learnt to others, continues to be a privilege.
