Our next outdoor firing full day workshop is Naked Our next outdoor firing full day workshop is Naked Raku!
It’s the pots that are naked, not the potters, in case you were slightly alarmed by the title. 😄
But why naked?
A layer of resist slip is applied to bisque pots, then coated with glaze and fired to around 950C. The pots are then placed into a fiery reduction chamber. The slip adheres to the glaze, cracks and breaks apart during the firing. This layer is then chipped off when the pots cool, revealing black and white contrasting marks on the “naked” clay surface.
There is a real excitement that comes from the fragile balance between control and uncertainty.
Each participant can bring their own bisqueware (max 4) or can choose from a selection which will be provided – see full specifications and pricing on the website.
Saturday 2nd May | 9am to 5pm approx.
