Technical Assistant

The Clay Studio is a pottery teaching studio with over 200 people per week attending classes, as well as weekend workshops. It is situated in a beautiful rural location on The Ashdown Forest.

We are looking for someone with some interest in ceramics or the creative arts, who has a keen interest in joining our friendly team at our vibrant pottery teaching studio.

You ideally need to be a car owner as The Clay Studio is located in a rural location between Uckfield and Crowborough, although there is a bus service that stops at the front gate.

You will be trained from scratch working with the Studio Manager and the Studio Technician.

Role Description

You will be taught to load and unload kilns, mix glazes and slips, reclaim clay, wrap, clean, tidy and maintain tools and equipment, and many other tasks. Some of the work is wet, dusty and physical and will include handling chemicals. It is not suitable for someone with skin sensitivity or who does not like to be very active and on their feet all day.

This role would suit someone keen to build out a new career in the world of pottery. Or someone who would like an ongoing part-time role in a creative environment. The following personal attributes are very important.

Further Information

  • Basis: Part-time. Days Ideally Wednesdays and Fridays, approx. 8:30am – 5:00pm (to be mutually agreed). This increase over time.
  • Remuneration: Hourly Rate Dependent on Experience
  • Location: A26 between Uckfield and Crowborough
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Type of Contractual Engagement: Freelance
